Bird Spikes Can Deter Pest Birds from Commercial Buildings

Commercial buildings and structures are increasingly vulnerable to pest bird damage.  Whether you own or manage  a large big box retailer or a furniture store, without bird proofing devices like bird spikes to discourage them, birds of all kinds will create a number  of problems for your property.

For example, starling, pigeon and sparrow nests can clog rain gutters, drains and the underside of roof corners. Flat roofed warehouses often suffer significant damage, even collapsed roofs, when drainage pipes and gutters are blocked, causing water to pool on rooftops. A collapsed roof can cause extensive damage to the structure as well as to the contents below.Bird spikes can prevent other problems—like bird nests getting into chimneys and ventilation systems. Nests can block airflow to produce potentially lethal carbon monoxide poisoning for workers inside a building. Bird droppings aerated and blown into work areas by heating and cooling ducts can spread any of 60 known diseases. Finally, the twigs, straw and dried droppings found in bird nests pose a significant fire hazard, especially when they are built inside electric signs and near machinery or electrical wiring.
Bird droppings can eat away into the tar-based roofing materials often used on commercial buildings. Allowed to accumulate, these acidic droppings will eventually cause leaks. Without bird spikes to keep birds away, the useable life of a warehouse roof can be cut in half when exposed to a light, but continuous layer of bird droppings.
Inside a commercial building or warehouse, bird droppings can destroy plastics, contaminate chemicals and liquids, and ruin paint jobs and food that are being processed or packaged. Droppings can also alter or mar finished products found in loading bays and storage areas.
Bird spikes are one highly effective solution. These bird-proofing devices have saved many a warehouse from birds and their droppings. That's because birds simply can't land on or near them.
Ideal for use against pigeons, seagulls and similar large birds. They're easily installed on rooftops and ledges using glue, nails or screws. Bird spikes come in either rigid U.V.-resistant unbreakable polycarbonate or high strength, durable stainless steel. The spikes look like they could impale a bird, but they've been specially designed with blunted tips so as not to harm birds or people. Bird spikes have even been approved by a number of humane groups worldwide--including the U.S. Humane Society and PICAS (Pigeon Control Advisory Service).
Bird spikes are so prolific and widely used that manufacturers now make them in various types, sizes and colors. You can choose stainless steel spikes, which come in 3-, 5- and 8-inch widths; or you can opt for the less expensive plastic spikes, which come in 3-, 5- and 7-inch widths. If you're a commercial property owner who prefers to have a bird deterrent blend in with the building, you might want to consider spikes with a non-reflective metal finish. You can also choose from a number of different colors--like white, tan, gray, black, brown, brick red and crystal clear.  No matter which you choose, birds will choose to avoid your commercial property.
